Première at Festival de la Cité, Lausanne, July 1st, 1994. Choreography for 5 dancers.
La Nébuleuse du Crabe, created in February 1994, was about these games-modes-rules we participate to, and which we are not conscious of. From the beginning, Vacarme has been conceived as dealing with the same topic. However, the structure, the final form, the number of performers are very different. We can talk of a third part, if we consider L’Alibi et le Topographe as the first one; it was about our need to control, to frame, to settle rules. So Vacarme would be the last part of the triptych.
“Mystery and beauty here cohabit… Propulsions, jumps, lifts… “Vacarme” is danced with fierce energy. The five performers fix their own rules for a complex game, leaving chalky tracks on the dance floor. Are they for hopscotch, roads, boundaries? There is always beauty in the mystery. “Vacarme” never misses, to the end. And what violent blazes does the final kiss of peace put out ?”

“Imagine a fabulously complex watch, with endless amounts of small beautifully crafted parts, each different, each functional – all working to make the clock tick in a singular rhythm. So danced the phenomenal five-members Compagnie Philippe Saire in its second Washington appearance.”
The Washington Post (USA) 1994
“They are young, strong and aggressive. They dance at high speeds that border on the dangerous. They are fearless. They are graceful, when called upon to be so. In short, they are remarkable.”
Seattle Post-Intelligencer (USA) 1994
“La capacidad de integracion y de crear totalitades bien estructuradas, no se da en maceta. Es uno de los retos mas angustiantes de todo creador. La elaboracion de un lenguaje personal, tambien. Saire es un artista maduro en ambos aspectos.”
